RESOLUTIONS vs GOALS

A few days ago I posted as QUESTION OF THE DAY: What is the difference between setting a goal and making resolutions.  Here are a couple of responses:
  • "Goals are specifics and attainable whereas resolutions are abroad"
  • "Goals....you plan to take action. Resolutions.....you plan to forget about in February"
  • "Nothing"
I went to the dictionary and looked up both words and this is what it said:
  • Goals-the object of a person's ambition or effort, an aim or desired result
  • Resolutions-a firm decision to do or not to do something
By looking at the definitions one could see how they are similar.  They both start off as a thought that turns into a decision to do something. They are both based on reaching an expected end. So if they are that close, then what makes them different.
.........LET'S GO

In the beginning of the year we make a list of resolutions that are suppose to help us through that year.  Most of the time we keep them until about mid February and if we are truly serious, the end of March.  But if they cost us too much or appear to be hard, they end in January.  Why do we drop them .........GOOD QUESTION........because we don't prepare for them or mostly because we made them based on our emotions at a particular time. Don't get me wrong resolutions are not a bad thing and could sometimes help us if we actually achieve them.

Goals are made to strategically change something.  Hopefully for the better.  It is an action word and just like the definition says it is done with effort and ambition (heart).  Goals are something you plan out and work towards. Goals have an expected end of achievement. It can sometimes be hard but with effort and ambition you keep pushing because you want to/ need to reach that end achievement just so you can set another goal which this time will be higher/harder than the last one.

To keep them both on the positive track, how about we allow the two the work together.  How about we make resolutions and set goals from them.  EXAMPLE:  Resolution : "In 2018 I'm gonna loose 100 pounds"  Instead of dropping all the bad foods you eat at once and just picking up carrots and grapes which is gonna sent your body into complete shock by the second week of  January and your resolution is now out the window, you set small goals. (I know that is a run on sentence)

Small Goal: January I will stop drinking sodas and switch out some of my junk food for a healthier choice.  Maybe through in a little exercise.

You will be surprised by the end of January how your body has change and the pounds you have lost.  Then you keep adding on to that every month and you will be overjoyed how goals with effort and ambition helped you to keep your resolutions.

Sit down and try this with your list of resolutions for 2018 and shoot me a comment of what you came up with.
